Draft 2 is now available for download and review. Again, we would like to have as much feedback as possible from this draft. Please remember this is just a draft. There may be changes, adds, deletes, etc. from here. We are getting closer the to the date of release to the congregation (9/7) and the presentation during the service (9/28). These are truly exciting times.
As we mentioned in the last post this draft has a change in style. There are 4 articles and 2 gray boxes we are calling sub-articles. You'll also notice a box of bullet points that we hope shows the main focus of this story.
One story that happened to Jon Baker (me) during this draft. We were struggling to put the small articles together into larger articles to fit the new style. As I sat and pieced together the main titles and sub-points that went together, I reviewed the 11 points of synthesis from the Prayer and Share Triplet input to make sure I didn't miss anything. The articles and sub-articles I had just laid out were in the same order as the synthesis document. I found that interesting.
Please continue to pray for the Future Story Writing Team. There is still much work to do.
God Bless!

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but the subarticles, the ones in the boxes, are not fully displaying for me. I simply enlarged the box to see all the text.
From Tim Boysel:
I have printed and read all 4 articles. Thanks to everyone that has taken on this task of trying to write the future story of our church from the input derived from the Triplet meetings. I know there is alot of material to cover and assimilate into our story. I am impressed by the creativity of the articles.
Personally as I read these articles I am struggling somewhat with the writing style used that is looking at our church 10 years from now. How we are linking our current situation to the 10 year view? It feels very high level without enough detail to implement or put together an action plan to start work. Will there be articles that bridge the concept to implementation? I guess I am more practically minded and may be jumping the gun somewhat, but I would like to see more specific action plans on the key initiatives when we present this to the church body.
From a highlevel perspective, I like the concept behind Main Campus and Beyond and Full Circle Discipleship. These seem like a major step forward in these areas.
To me, the article A Day of Prayer at a House of Prayer is too small of a concept to build a 10 year vision for our church. I like the strategy of putting more focus on prayer in our chuch but it seems we could accomplish these listed initiatives in a much shorter timeline, say 1-2 years as opposed to 10 years.
As for the Propelled Forward article, I do like the concept presented. However, I am not sure how this is different from what we currently do at the church other than a more excelerated pace and scope.
Let me know if I can provide any assistance or more information to help with this project.
thanks
Tim
Tim,
Thanks for the feedback. To answer some questions while trying not to sound defensive, the Future Story Map, which we will work on together as a Vision Community on 9/27, should help move us toward implementation.
Hopefully that helps some.
Jon
An email response from Bill Burke...
I was unable to post ... here are my thoughts:
1. Terrific improvement! I like the format, and it communicates well!
2. I am drawing some assumptions ... that the church is focusing on families with kids ... foreign missions means Hispanic ... and that the church is equipping and comfortable for attenders.
3. Still trying to decipher how it is different than other evangelical churches ... and what would appeal to outsiders, particularly non-believing outsiders.
But you and the team have really moved the ball down the field. Thanks!
Bill Burke
Trying to leave a comment is very cumbersome. Or is it just me?
I am concerned that the only area of Missions appears to be Latinos. There are many other ethnic groups, both locally and worldwide that need attention. Also, how about some of the missions support agencies like MAF that provide valuable support to Missions agencies.
One thing that I see missing in the Future Stories is a "how to." Since I am not a visionary type person, I need some context as to how we are getting to where we want to be from where we are now.
Alan,
Thanks for the feedback.
Regarding How-To's, the future story team has worked hard not to include how-to statements, as this is the work of future meetings in the SSJ process. On 9/27, we will meet as a Vision Community to develop the Future Story Map, which I understand will be full of how-to's.
Regarding the Latin America focus of missions, the idea is that we can be deeply rooted in efforts in Latin America, or we can be spread a mile wide and an inch deep in all areas of the world. While there were triplet items suggesting expanding further, there was a good bit of support in the material to focus on one or two areas and communicate it better. We opted for the second. That doesn't mean there won't be other areas that we work with, but that Latin America would be the focus.
Hopefully that helps you see what was in our heads as we developed the story. We will certainly take the feedback into consideration for the next draft!
Thanks Alan!
Jon
